The End Of The Millennium (LG14)

Understanding End Time Signs

After the formation of the nation of Israel in 1948, Christians believe that we are living in the last days. Again in 1967, when the Lord gave the Promised land back to Israel, interest in end time revived. From the 1980s with the influence of the 'dispensationists', who believed that the end of the Millennium is the end of the sixth Millennium (6th day) and also the end of the period of Grace, end time messages flourished in churches.

To satisfy the hunger, unlearned end time teachers taught the various schools of thoughts, which are non beneficial to Christians. Another group makes it easier by declaring that His coming is imminent (so don't bother about end time events), completely ignoring all end time warnings and teachings of our Lord Jesus. I just cannot imagine how these so called end time teachers face God.

Mat 24:6-8  "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."_

But a few groups were fervently preaching the end time signs, warning Christians to watch out for wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilences, persecutions, etc. before Rapture. These were the Post-trib teachers, who taught that Rapture would be after the Great Tribulation (including the 7 years or Jacob's trouble or Wraths). So these teachers were expecting some important and biblical events to happen by 1993 AD.

When the PLO-Israel Peace Treaty was signed on 13th September 1993 (1st Seal), Christians were very excited and interested in end times.

  • On 30th September, the great Latur killed over 10,000 people.
  • On 17th January 1994, the great Los Angeles earthquake caused US$ 13-40 billion loses.

The April Rwandan Genocide in 1994 killed almost a million souls within 3 months (2nd. Seal). At that time there were more than 25 serious and deadly civil wars worldwide. All these events sent Christians to the faith of Jesus coming back by end of the Millennium. Back then many churches and Christians launched self supporting projects in the wilderness to avoid the '666' mark or detection.

The 1997/98 El Niño was regarded as one of the most powerful El Niño-Southern Oscillation events in recorded history, resulting in widespread drought, flooding and other natural disasters across the globe (Wikipedia).

In mid 1997, the Asian Financial Crisis hit almost all nations (especially SEA and South Korea) with the Western nations and a few other nations recovering within weeks. These financial crisis and El Nino caused great sufferings and starvations to the people.

During this time the IT experts predicted that the Y2K bugs might wrongly trickle the nuclear arsenals and destroy the whole world.

News of doom and the end of the world were commonly reported in all types of newspapers.

Most Christians believed that the end was near and many resigned to expect Rapture to be by the end of 1999 (Y2K) or 2000AD, and set themselves to live the rest of their short lives to serve and please God.

Brethren, this was the period when Christians were filled with goodness, kindness, mercies, generosity and love. Evangelism was their priority. Some wanted to sell all and serve the Lord, but only very few wicked Christians and pastors used this opportunity to enrich themselves by deceiving, cheating and robbing Christians.
